Job Description

Join to apply for the Respite Provider role at Lutheran Services in Iowa . LSI currently seeks part-time Respite Providers to offer respite care services in the Waterloo and surrounding Cedar Valley area (Black Hawk, Tama, Benton, Grundy, Franklin and/or Hardin counties). The purpose of respite care is to give the parent or primary caregiver a break from the daily responsibilities of caring for a child or adult with a disability. If you are passionate about serving others, have strong communication skills, and can set your own schedule, this role may be for you. Families need a break from 24/7/365 care and supervision of their loved one, and you could provide that break for a few hours a week or a weekend. Hours may flex according to the family's needs, with some evenings or weekend hours requested. The position potentially allows working from home after a probationary period. Great for college students or anyone looking for a second job to gain experience. Minimum requirements include basic computer skills and access to a laptop/tablet or smartphone.

DUTIES

Provide all care required for a child or adult with a disability while their parent or guardian is absent. Maintain a safe and nurturing home‑based environment. Work at the request of families, with no guaranteed or set hours. Match with clients approved for services if not specifically requested. Provide services in clients' homes, community, or potentially your own home.

QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED. Experience working with people with disabilities preferred. Basic computer skills for timekeeping and documentation. Valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and a good driving record. Ability to pass an extensive background check, including dependent adult and child abuse registries, sex offender registry, and criminal history check.
